Using plants as home decors are gaining momentum like never before. Plants add a pop of color and aesthetics to your home and come with certain benefits. Air purifying – for example.

The amount of content available online on how to care for and grow houseplants is vast. People even identify themselves as plant person/plant mom. However, there are plant killers – people who couldn’t figure out how to care for their plants. So if you’re a clueless plant killer, here are three plants that are unique yet low maintenance for you to care for easily.

Even if you’re a plant person and would like to have some easy-to-maintain plants, this will be helpful.

Dracaena marginata ( dragon tree )

They can thrive on bright indirect sunlight but can adapt to low light as well. Dragon trees give a contemporary look that you can find even in hotel lobbies. Indoors, they can grow up to 6-8 ft. So you can experiment with how you want this plant to look. Watering should be done when the soil is dry. That’s probably once every 2 to 3 weeks. In colder months can go up to 6-8 weeks without water.

Song of India

The leaves are the unique feature of this plant – dark green at the center, pale green or yellow at the ends. Like dragon trees, they also need indirect bright sunlight. Once they grow taller, the leaves at the bottom shed revealing the stem which adds to the aesthetics. They need moderately dry soil and you can spritz water to maintain humidity. You can provide/fertilizer once or twice during the summer and spring months.

Umbrella tree

The bright, glossy leaves that grow in an eight-spoke style resembles an umbrella hence the name umbrella tree. The long trunk can branch into 12-16 leaflets per stem. Similar to the dragon tree and the song of India, the umbrella tree thrives in indirect bright sunlight. Watering can be done once in 7-14 days. They prefer drier soils over excess watering.

Apart from low maintenance, all the three plants have lively and lush foliage that can be a statement in any room. The best thing to avoid overwatering these plants is to use a moisture meter to check the water level.
